How We Treat Each Other

What This Is

Charlotte Together exists so people can connect in a space that feels safe. This code of conduct is how we make that real — not just words on a page. It applies to every event, every online space, every interaction connected to Charlotte Together.

How We Show Up

  • Be kind. Assume people mean well.
  • Listen more than you interrupt.
  • Respect boundaries — ask before hugging, don’t push people to drink.
  • Make space for people who are quieter or newer.
  • If someone says “no” or “I’m good,” that’s the end of it.
  • You can leave any event at any time, no explanation needed.

What We Don’t Tolerate

  • Harassment, discrimination, or hateful conduct of any kind.
  • Threats, intimidation, or violence — verbal or physical.
  • Unwelcome sexual attention, comments, or advances.
  • Pressuring someone to drink, stay, or participate in anything they’re not comfortable with.
  • Disruptive behavior that makes others feel unsafe or unwelcome.
  • Illegal activity or violating venue rules.

Your Rights at Every Event

  • You can leave at any time, for any reason, without explaining.
  • You can say no to any activity, drink, or conversation.
  • You can ask an organizer for help at any point.
  • You can report something days or weeks later — there’s no deadline.
  • You will never be pressured to drink alcohol or participate in anything.

If Something Happens

If you experience or see something that doesn’t feel right, tell us. You won’t be judged for reporting — we’d rather hear about it and be wrong than miss something real.

We respond to reports within 48 hours. All reports are handled by Ahmane and trusted organizers, treated with discretion, and taken seriously. Include names, dates, and what happened if you can — but even a general concern helps.

What Happens Next

If someone violates this code, here’s what we do:

  • First: A direct conversation. Most issues are misunderstandings and get resolved here.
  • If it continues: A formal warning and documentation.
  • If it’s serious or repeated: Removal from the event and/or ban from future Charlotte Together spaces.

Anyone asked to stop must stop immediately. If you feel a decision was unfair, you can email Ahmane directly to discuss it — but the safety of the community comes first.

Where This Applies

  • Every in-person event and meetup
  • Our Discord, social media, and online spaces
  • Events at partner venues or collaborative events
