Discord as an Optional Way to Stay in Touch
Discord is one way to talk with Charlotte Together members between events. It is optional: you can browse events and join in person without joining Discord.
If you already use Discord and enjoy group chats, it may be a convenient place to ask questions or continue a conversation. If it is not for you, email updates and event listings are available too.
If you would like to join
Use the Charlotte Together Discord invite, then read the current welcome message and community guidelines. The server's rooms and features can change, so start with the information shown there.
You can introduce yourself with a name you are comfortable using and a few interests. Share only what you are comfortable sharing.
Start at your own pace
You can read along before posting. When you are ready, ask a question about an upcoming event, respond to a topic you enjoy, or say hello in the room suggested by the welcome message.
A few simple openers:
- "Is anyone else going to the event this week?"
- "What do you enjoy doing around Charlotte?"
- "Has anyone tried this activity before?"
You do not have to keep up with every conversation. Reply when you want to, and take a break when you need one.
Keep notifications manageable
If group chats get distracting, adjust Discord's notification settings or mute conversations you do not need to follow closely. You can also leave the server whenever you like.
Use Discord alongside in-person events
Discord can make it easier to ask a practical question or coordinate with people before an event. It cannot guarantee that you will know people when you arrive, and it does not replace meeting in person if that is what you want.
Whether you use Discord or not, you can find your next gathering in the Charlotte Together event calendar.
